See The Tall Ships in Duluth in 2019
Though it may seem simplistic at first, ship watching is a favorite pastime in Duluth. Ships were once considered part of the industrial landscape. Today, they are a romantic icon. With over 1,000 ships that call in its harbor each year, it’s no wonder that we’ve learned to love the sight of these massive vessels on our horizon. Boats usually start pulling into the Duluth Harbor around the end of March, or as soon as the ice begins to melt, and they continue through January until the ice is too thick to pass through. Duluth’s love of ship watching runs deep, and dates back to 1905 with the completion of the symbolic Aerial Lift Bridge. For a simple afternoon gazing out over the harbor, head to Canal Park, the Lakewalk, or along the Superior Entry at the tip of Wisconsin Point.
Ship watching on the Duluth harbor is a special treat any day of the week, but there’s something magical about the tall ships that sail into Duluth’s harbor every so often. This year, the Fest of Sails in Duluth is taking place August 11 – 13, 2019.
