If you are like me, you can hardly believe that autumn is upon us very soon! We are so thrilled with the amazing summer that we have enjoyed at our gorgeous Duluth Bed and Breakfast, and have truly enjoyed the incredible guests and new friends we have met along the way.
And with Autumn around the corner, it is the perfect time to escape to the North Shore as the colors begin to change. One incredible to sight to experience is the migration of predatory birds as they circle the lake on their destinations for the winter. At the Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory, located nearby our Duluth Bed and Breakfast, you will experience an incredible spectacle of the raptor migration. The “Hawk weekend” occurs the weekend of September 20, 21, and 22 – a great time to visit Duluth!
A new and exciting event coming to Duluth this September is the Duluth Balloon Festival! For the first time in 120 years, Hot Air Balloons will descend upon our port city! Yes, can you see it now…beautiful, colorful balloons hovering along the shores of majestic Lake Superior with perhaps an stunning ship entering or departing the harbor! What a sight! This fantastic event will take place September 20-22, 2013, at Bayfront Festival Park, with an expected 10-12 hot air balloons. This free event also features the Craft Brew Village, Kite Demonstration, Weather Balloon launches and much more.
If you enjoy watching gifted athletes, the North Shore Inline Marathon takes place the weekend of September 13th and 14th. Like Grandma’s Marathon, skaters glide along the stunning North Shore racing into Canal Park. These and many, many more great activities and sites to see in Duluth can be added to your autumn agenda.
This time of year, we are enjoying watching our Duluth Bed and Breakfast gardens transform from summer to autumn, and with the late spring, our hydrangeas are just beginning to open their stunning blooms. Varieties from Limelight, Annabelle, PeeGee and more surround the grounds and await your camera’s lens. Our perennial beds are slowly transforming their summer blooms and moving into autumn with soft hues of our sedum, and happy yellow of our Black-eyed Susans – a long time favorite!
And while enjoying our Duluth Bed and Breakfast, we cannot think of a better place to sit and enjoy the sights and sounds of the season than our beautiful gazebo! Surrounded by lovely perennials, flowering hydrangeas, and towering pines, it is a delightful spot to sit with that glass of wine in the evening or cup of coffee in the morning!
So as summer winds down and autumn approaches, we believe it is a great time to plan your escape to Duluth and our Duluth Bed and Breakfast! Our port city offers guests so much from its sheer beauty, fun activities, great attractions, great beer, and great food!
