A Spring Hike in Duluth

There are so many hikes to choose from in Duluth, that it can be kind of hard to narrow it down.  In fact, sometimes one of the hardest things about visiting Duluth is choosing which activity to do.  You really could hike for days without getting bored of the scenery and the adventure.  But don’t worry about that; you’ll just have to come back and visit us again!  One of the most popular hikes in the area is, of course, the Superior Hiking Trail.  And for good reason, too!  The Superior Hiking Trail is truly incredible, and worth every second you spend on exploring the length of this trail.  At times, it doesn’t even feel like your in a city, but rather deep in the North Woods, far away from civilization.  It really is that great.

Spring Hikes in DuluthThough it’s hard to go wrong on the SHT, we’d like to take a look at a couple of other local hikes; places where you’re sure to run into locals, and experience Duluth for the true gem that it is.  The hike to Oberg Mountain is intensely rewarding.  After the trek to the top, you’ll enjoy long sweeping views of Lake Superior, rock ledges bisecting hidden lakes, and the North Shore Sawtooth backcountry stretching far into the distance. The hike up to Ely’s Peak is also both interesting and rewarding.  Along the way,  you’ll find the old Duluth, Winnipeg, Pacific Railroad line’s tunnel.  It’s fun to explore.  You can either travel through it or around it, before heading on the peak.  If you’re feeling adventurous, rock climbers can also head straight up to the peak.  Otherwise, make sure you follow the section of the Superior Hiking Trail that leads you around to an easier ascent.
