Duluth is widely accepted as one of the top destinations in the Midwest for outdoor recreation, and the bitter winds of winter don’t change that.  It’s snow season up North, and Duluth’s transformed winter wonderland is waiting for you to come play.  Ski season is finally here in the Duluth area, and this year promises to be another excellent season. Duluth’s Top Skiing Destinations

As you may imagine, there are so many choices when it comes to finding snow to play in around the city of Duluth.  Alpine skiers and snowboarders have several great places to choose from, and Nordic skiers have endless miles throughout the many parks of Duluth to explore and enjoy.  All ages and abilities will be able to get out and have some fun!

Downhill Skiing and Snowboarding

  1. Spirit Mountain is by far one of the most popular downhill areas in Duluth, and is only around 20 minutes from our Inn.  Daily operations begin on Saturday, December 16th, so there’s no better time to make your winter plans!  Spirit Mountain Ski area is known for its long, legendary winters, and is often considered one of the greatest suburban ski areas in the Midwest.  Spirit Mountain is most famous for it’s 700-foot vertical drop; something not too common in the Midwest.  There are 8 total lifts here, which includes a high-speed quad lift, as well as 22 total runs and two terrain parks.  It’s an incredible skiing destination that offers something for everyone. There are also nordic ski trails in the area.
  2. Skiing and snowboarding in Duluth, MinnesotaChester Bowl officially opens for the season on Monday, December 19th.  Located in town and less than 10 minutes from the Inn, it’s the perfect place for a quick trip into the snow.  Chester Bowl is especially wonderful for families or those brand new to winter sports.  It’s 175 foot drop is far less intimidating than the bigger ski areas in Duluth.
  3. Mont du Lac Resort is about 30 minutes from our Bed and Breakfast, and provides excellent versatility for skiers and snowboarders.  There is a groomed beginner’s area, intermediate runs, and expert runs, which includes a 10+ acre Western-style bowl, mogul runs, un-groomed terrain, and tree skiing.
