Enger Tower Offers The Best View in Duluth
Enger Tower, located at Enger Park and situated at one of the highest points in Duluth, was first built in 1939. It’s located at the west end of Duluth on the Skyline Parkway and near the Canal Park Neighborhood, and just 15 minutes by car from our Inn. The tower was constructed from national Blue Stone taken from this region. It stands 80 feet tall, and from the top offers exceptional views of the St. Louis Bay, the Duluth Harbor, and Lake Superior.
Upon construction, the Enger Tower was actually dedicated by Crown Prince Olav and Crown Princess Martha of Norway in honor of Norwegian native Bert Enger. Mr. Enger, a well-known and successful furniture dealer in the area, donated most of his estate to the City of Duluth upon his death, leaving behind the area that now comprises of Enger Park, tower, hill, and golf course. The tower was rededicated on October 17, 2011, with a visit from King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway.
Inside Enger Tower, there’s a staircase that will take you to the top. Along the way, there are a number of lookouts, each of which offers a beautiful vantage point over modern-day Duluth. Come up here at sunset, and you’ll find yourself in one of the most romantic places in Duluth.
