Grand Re-Opening of the NorShor Theatre

The NorShor Theatre is housed inside a historic landmark.  Originally, at the site of today’s theatre was the Duluth Grand Opera House, built in 1883.  Unfortunately, fire and tragedy marred the Opera House’s legacy.  The opera house was ultimately moved, where it went through an interesting history as a joint Masonic Temple and Opera House, later to be combined with an ice skating rink.  After another devastating fire and a long span of vacancy, Duluth Romantic Date Night at the NorShor Theatre in Duluth, MinnesotaBusinessman Guilford Hartley purchased the Temple Opera Block. In 1910, Hartley opened The Orpheum, which remained Duluth’s premiere vaudeville stage until 1925.  The Orpheum closed in 1925, to be reborn once again as the NorShor Theatre, a modern Art Deco movie house, in 1940.  Today, the NorShor Theatre is managed by the Duluth Playhouse.

The Grand Opening Gala for the NorShor Theatre will take place on February 1, 2018, with a special premier of the NorShor’s first show, Mamma MiaTickets are still available for this fabulous celebration of the arts.  The show will run for just over 2 weeks, until Feb. 18, 2018.  After that, shows on the NorShore stage will include Lend Me a Tenor, Our Town, and The Music Man.
