Bike Duluth Festival
The 2019 KA Bike Duluth Festival will take place August 2-4 at Spirit Mountain. For 3 action-packed days, cyclists from all over will descend upon Duluth and take to the area’s 85 miles of challenging urban and mountain biking trails. You’ll see up close why Duluth just earned Gold Level status in biking, an honored bestowed on only six places in the entire world!
Festival events include enduro, downhill, XC races, a casual adventure ride, product demos, and an evening celebration with family-fun bike events, interesting and unusual bike-related competitions, beer, food, music, and so much more. Also returning this year is the Adventure Ride, which is your perfect opportunity to test your skills on a mountain bike. The ride will be guided by locals, and will offer some of the best access to Duluth’s epic trail system, along with spectacular vistas of the St. Louis River. You can register for races online, or in person on the day of the race.
Mountain Biking Trails
Mountain biking Enthusiasts will find an abundance of challenging trails in Duluth. Whether it’s riding across ridgelines on the more than 45 miles of single-track trails or accessing Duluth’s mountain-top trails, there’s no doubt that you’ll find some of Minnesota’s best mountain biking in Duluth. The top mountain biking trails in Duluth include the following:
- If you only have time to explore one mountain biking trail system in Duluth, make it the Duluth Traverse. Though it’s not complete yet, the traverse will eventually be a 26-mile multi-use, single-track trail built for mountain biking. As its name suggests, the trail completely traverses the city of Duluth and offers some of the best scenery around.
- Hartley Park, part of the Duluth Traverse, has long been a popular destination for mountain biking in Duluth. From here, it’s possible to connect up to other trails in the traverse, such as the Lester-Amity trail system, where you can continue a long and satisfying day of mountain biking. Other popular connections include Piedmont-Brewer Park and Mission Creek.
- Though it is part of the Duluth Traverse, a popular single destination for mountain bikers is Spirit Mountain. Spirit Mountain features About 6 miles of trails, all downhill and gravity-fed, which run the gamut from beginner level to double black diamond. There is also a skill park on Spirit Mountain and a fully developed adventure park, which features an alpine slide and zip line.
- Hawks Ridge, Skyline Parkway, and various places along the Superior Hiking Trail are also wonderful mountain biking trails.
