There are plenty of great breweries in Duluth, but have you had the chance to visit Blacklist Brewing lately? If not, this winter is the perfect choice to head to this Duluth mainstay for some delicious brews and an incredible night of fun. Blacklist Artisan Ales was originally founded in 2012, and much to the enjoyment of Duluthians opened their 20-barrel taproom in Duluth in 2016. Since then, this Superior Street brewery has become a popular place to sit back and relax.
Duluth has long had a reputation for superior beer, thanks in part to the fresh, cold waters from Lake Superior that go into each craft brew up here. Come join us at the A.G. Thomson House Bed and Breakfast this winter. While you should visit more than one brewery while here, definitely don’t miss your chance to try Blacklist Brewing Co. Go Axe Throwing at Blacklist Brewing Co.
Blacklist Brewery’s taproom is housed in a 3-story 108-year-old brownstone in the heart of Duluth. The brewery joins the recently renovated NorShore Theater, Zeitgeist Arts Cafe, and several great restaurants in this revived part of Duluth. Where beer is concerned, Blacklist brews primarily Belgians, but they bring a healthy dose of creativity to their production line. Their best-seller has been the BIPA, a Belgian-IPA that merges the best of both styles.
Though the taproom doesn’t have a kitchen, guests are encouraged to bring their food, and the brewery itself is surrounded by a number of great restaurants. What they do offer is plenty of award-winning beer, handcrafted hard seltzer, axe throwing, and a selection of light and locally-made snacks.
As if their beer wasn’t enough of a draw, Blacklist Brewing Co. is the first business to offer axe throwing to their repertoire of fun! Axe throwing has been growing in popularity across the country, and it’s quickly becoming the most cutting-edge bar sport around. It’s an incredible amount of fun, and it’s a great way to get competitive with friends and family. Maybe you want to host an event and include a little axe throwing? Blacklist is your place! Blacklist Brewing Co. also has staff on hand to help teach you a little bit about axe throwing, just in case this is your first time participating in this fun sport.
More Great Breweries in Duluth
Duluth informally likes to call itself the craft beer capital of Minnesota, and it’s a title we think is quite fitting. Beer-loving tourists have been flocking to the North Shore for years, searching for their next favorite pint. Here are a few more of the best breweries in Duluth to consider visiting this winter:
- Hoops Brewing, located in the popular Canal Park neighborhood, was started by master brewer Dave Hoops, who used to head up Fitger’s Brewhouse. It’s a stunning, 250-seat brewhouse, and is a true beer-lovers destination.
- The Lake Superior Brewing Company opened in the early 1990s, and today remains one of the Northland’s oldest production microbreweries currently in operation.
- Canal Park is home to Canal Park Brewery. Their Nut Hatchet Brown Ale won a silver medal at the 2014 World Cup Beer Awards.
- Bent Paddle Brewing Co. has proven to be wildly popular on the craft beer scene in Duluth.
- Tycoon’s Alehouse is a Duluth landmark. The building used to house the Duluth City Hall. Today, its turn-of-the-century charm serves up great beer from another Duluth staple, Fitger’s Brewhouse.
